Position Title Assistant Director of Counseling and Disability Services
Job Description Summary

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Student Services in fulfillment of the College’s mission. Primary responsibilities are: 1) Provide outstanding service to students, colleagues, and the general public; 2) Manage and direct counseling services, including the areas of academic and personal counseling; 3) Provide staff assistance to the Dean of Student Success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Provides outstanding service to students and other internal and external customers.
• Planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating Counseling and Disability Services.
• Management of support staff operations.
• Coordinates on going counseling staff training.
• Assists students in the development of their individual educational plans and goals.
• Provides personal counseling to assist students in resolving personal problems.
• Refers students to appropriate community agencies after assessing student needs.
• Provides crisis intervention and support.
• Provides following-up consultation with students as needed.
• Serves as Chair of the Crisis Intervention Team. Chairs meetings as needed.
• Maintains accurate files (paper, electronic) of interactions with students.
• Coordinates Professional Development activities and trainings to faculty and staff, with the Counseling and Disability Services staff or in conjunction with community resources.
• Continuing to develop professional skills and knowledge.
• Works independently within a team on special and ongoing projects.
• Provides program development and strategic planning, and monitoring priorities and progress towards the Department’s goals.
• Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Networking and developing of memorandums of understanding with local counseling services.
• Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
• Predictable and reliable attendance is required in order to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.
• Attendance at all mandatory meetings.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Desired

Knowledge of ACA Code of Ethics as well as disability law practices and issues related to ADA and Section 504 compliance.

Experience Required

Master’s degree and Licensed Professional Counselor certification required; 3-5 years of experience working with diverse populations, with an array of disabilities, and a strong understanding of guiding individuals towards future opportunities desired.
