Position Title Dean of Student Services
Job Description Summary

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Services in fulfillment of the College’s mission. Under the general leadership of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services, the Dean of Student Services is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, supervising and evaluating personnel, and programs within the assigned areas of responsibility. These areas may include, academic advising, retention, testing services, disability and counseling services, center for tutoring and learning, career and transfer services, student engagement, student assessment, and special grant programs. The Dean of Student Services will also be responsible for coordinating division-wide policies and procedures, working collaboratively with internal and external constituencies to improve student access and success, and assisting in the management with enrollment services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides vision, leadership, and direction for a dynamic and progressive community of faculty, staff, and students.

• Leads, supervises, directs, and evaluates the performance of staff in the assigned areas; participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and professional development of staff.

• Provides leadership for the successful development, coordination, and implementation for programs, services, and special initiatives-projects, including, but not limited to, those related to student development, retention, assessment, career, transfer, student success, and administration.

• Collaborates with academic deans, faculty, support staff, and others to assess student needs and to improve student access, retention, transfer, and completion.

• Participates with college leadership in strategic and organizational planning processes, and outcome-driven assessments in support of enrollment management, and retention and completion efforts.

• Assists with coordinating staff development and training, performance appraisals and professional development, strategic planning, and budget activities.

• Participates on division, college-wide, community, and/or educational advisory committees as assigned.

• Assists in the development, implementation, and review of division-wide policies, procedures, and website content.

• Assists in the preparation and submission of timely and accurate reports to meet state and federal requirements In particular, grant programs.

• Provides leadership for new and emerging technologies in assigned areas.

• Plans, monitors, and reconciles budgets to effectively utilize financial resources.

• Develops, implements, and evaluates assigned programs and services, integrates planning with budgeting.

• Provides daily project and activity management, and effective problem-solving.

• Creates standardized and specialized office correspondence, forms, reports, and publication pieces as needed

• Ability and endurance necessary to work the needed hours to complete the job

• Provides administrative leadership in the absence of the Vice Chancellor, and performs other job-related duties as assigned.

• Predictable and reliable attendance is required in order to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.

Qualifications Desired

Doctorate degree preferred

Experience Required

Master’s degree required; Doctorate degree preferred, with at least five years’ experience in Education, Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or related discipline. Evidence of increasing levels of responsibility in both supervisory and budget management experience.
