Position Title Student Accounts Advisor
Job Description Summary

This position reports to the Director of Student Accounts in fulfillment of the College’s mission. Primary responsibilities are: 1) Provide outstanding service to students, colleagues, and the general public; 2) Coordinating third party billing and payment reconciliation; 3) Managing the process of holds as related to student accounts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Providing outstanding service to students and other internal and external customers.
• Ensuring that students are linked to applicable third party providers, collecting appropriate payments from third parties, and reconciling third party payments with student accounts.
• Performing activities related to the administration of the College’s third-party payment plan.
• Managing the process of holds as related to student accounts.
• Applying exemptions and waivers to student accounts according to established eligibility guidelines.
• Verifying the accuracy of student billing through a variety of methods and implementing a continual improvement process for communication related to student billing and collection.
• Providing counseling to students and parents regarding payment options.
• Assisting with student contact for proactive collections.
• Preparing journal entries as necessary including those for correction of miscoding.
• Maintaining Banner data including per term tuition and fees, coding, etc.
• Working independently within a team on special and ongoing projects.
• Assisting the Director of Student Accounts with program development and strategic planning, and monitoring priorities and progress towards the Department’s goals.
• Demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
• Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
• Attendance at all mandatory meetings.
• Predictable and reliable attendance is required in order to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.

Qualifications Desired

Education and/or Experience: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred and minimum of one year experience in accounting required, experience in higher education student accounting preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). Ability to learn to operate College-specific software and applications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance.
Other Qualifications: Knowledge of cash handling procedures and related controls over cash and currency. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.

Experience Required

Minimum of one year experience in accounting required, experience in higher education student accounting preferred.
