Position Title Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health
Job Description Summary

The Associate Dean is responsible for the management of the Technical Diploma Program – Practical Nursing and the Associate of Science Degree Nursing Program. Associate Dean will also assist with the coordination of the Allied Health Programs.
The Associate Dean will:
• Demonstrate leadership to and management of the nursing programs, to include initiative in maintaining and in improving the quality of instruction.
• Provides program data, reports and schedules to the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health.
• Collaborates with the Program Chairs and Dean of Nursing & Allied Health in preparing performance evaluation of nursing faculty and evaluates the effectiveness of instruction.
• Assesses clinical facility placement needs and evaluates the quality of clinical facilities in accordance with Board of Nursing rules to ensure that clinical learning experiences are able to satisfy course and program objectives.
• Establishes and monitors academic standards for the nursing programs.
• Maintains program compliance with Board of Nursing rules and program accreditation standards.
• Submits annual reports through the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners.
• Serves as the College’s liaison with the Board of Nursing regarding continuing education for nurses.
• Recommends program textbook, software, hardware, laboratory equipment, and curriculum changes to the Dean, upon obtaining appropriate faculty input.
• Monitors nursing program budgets, in coordination with the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health.
• Organizes and participates in meetings of the Nursing Program Advisory Committee.
• Assists the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health in the recruitment and selection of nursing faculty and laboratory staff
• Organizes, plans, and implements nursing pinning ceremonies in cooperation with the faculty & staff
• Assesses effectiveness of nursing student admissions process and provides recommendations for improvement to the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health as needed.
• Assists in the implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan in accordance with their provisions.
• Assists College officials in resolving faculty and student issues related to the nursing programs.
• Monitors nursing program retention and placement rates, submits retention data to the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health and provides recommendations for improvement, as needed.
• Provides and monitors the effectiveness of orientation programs for new, full, and part-time faculty.
• Implements and monitors a plan for the continuous assessment of clinical effectiveness and provides recommendations to the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health for improvement, as needed.
• Maintains currency of knowledge in nursing education by attending state and national meetings of nursing educators and administrators.
• Implements and assesses a plan for improving College/clinical agency relations through the use of effective communications and regular site visits to affiliate agencies.
• Advises the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health of issues and concerns that may have College-wide administrative impact.
• Monitors nursing graduate and employer surveys, and provides recommendations to the Dean of Nursing & Allied Health for program improvement, as needed.
• Effectively represents the School of Nursing & Allied Health when serving on assigned College committees and attending community functions.
• Fosters a departmental climate that supports collegiality and professional development of students, faculty, and staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Desired

-Master of Science in Nursing required; Doctorate preferred
-Five years of academic/clinical experience
-Five years of administrative experience in higher education
-Unrestricted Louisiana licensure as RN
-Graduate of an accredited institution
-Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
-Satisfactory criminal background check

Experience Required

-Master of Science in Nursing required; Doctorate preferred
-Five years of academic/clinical experience
-Five years of administrative experience in higher education or healthcare
-Unrestricted Louisiana licensure as RN or the ability to secure one prior to employment
-Graduate of an accredited institution
-Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
-Satisfactory criminal background check
