Job Description Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

70% -Educational/Tutor Duties:

Reinforces instruction through drill and practice activities with individual students or
small groups; leads assigned student activities.
Checks students’ work in the classroom and demonstrates instructional material.
Administers assigned tests evaluating student learning.
Assists in arranging instructional site to facilitate learning.
Reproduces instructional material for the teacher.
Corrects student assignments and records student grades.
Tutor students and assist teachers
Assists in collecting and maintaining data about student behavior; assists in implementing behavior management programs.

30% -Secretarial Duties:

Files student work and maintains related records.
Prepares bulletin boards.
Provides clerical support to assigned professional by typing related material and
compiling information.
Assists in the set up and maintenance of adaptive and technological equipment.
Maintains an inventory of classroom materials and equipment.
Attends faculty and related meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Graduation from high school or GED. Any equivalent combination of acceptable
experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
 Ability to master and communicate instructional material.
 Ability to secure student cooperation independent of immediate supervisor.
 Ability to establish and maintain positive relations with students, parents, and
professional staff.
 Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
 Ability to successfully complete provided training in instruction in area of specialty.
 Ability to learn operation of standard school office machines and equipment.
 Skill in classroom management
 Graduation from high school or GED. Any equivalent combination of acceptable experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:
 Some knowledge of child psychology and development, and the legal, ethical, and confidential nature of the job.
 Ability to master and communicate instructional material.
 Ability to secure student cooperation independent of immediate supervisor.
 Ability to establish and maintain positive relations with students, parents, and professional staff.
 Excellent oral written communication skills.
 Excellent listening and communication skills.

Qualifications Desired

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Facilitate basic and advanced adult learners in math, science, reading, English, technology, and other possible subjects needed to prepare learners to pass the HISET.
  • Participate in weekly staff/team meetings with adult education department.
  • Follow all regulations according to LCTCS policies, grant parameters, educational plans, and student goals.
  • Maintain and provides appropriate accountability records and reports.
  • Continue professional development and networking with other adult education colleagues.
  • Adapt materials when needed for the benefit of the individual student or group of students.
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times and follow all FERPA policies.
  • Promote a positive environment and professional demeanor.
  • Report behavior that causes disruption, does not adhere to LCTCS and grant policies.
  • Tutor and motivate students.
Experience Required

Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and one year of office clerical experience.
